Jim Misner studied woodworking and furniture design in college. He has been self employed since 1983 making custom cabinets, furniture, and sculpture. Over the years he has won several awards for his art work and has been featured in local newspapers and national magazines. He also teaches Woodworking and Printmaking at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center.
At his gallery you will find a selection of sculpture, furniture, and wooden accessories. He uses domestic and exotic lumber and veneers to create one-of -a -kind pieces. From carved bowls to finely crafted furniture, he uses different color woods or dyes to create a unique contrast in his work.
Jim seeks diversity in his art work. Some sculptures are organic forms that relate directly to the grain and color in the wood, with soft flowing lines and smooth surface mass. Other works are assembled from wood and found objects and have varied finishes. He likes abstract and realistic art and that is reflected in his work. He is currently working on some new ideas that will merge his sculptural concepts with his furniture making.
